Ultra Trail Australia 100km

Our very own Steve Hulme will be running the Ultra Trail Australia 100km trail run on the 22nd October 2020.

An event unlike any other in Australia. The trail runners' Mecca in the Blue Mountains of NSW.

2020 has seen many events cancelled due to Covid-19. The Ultra UTA was postponed in May this year but will go ahead on 24 October, and A&O are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring our very own ultra-runner Steve Hulme.

The race takes place in Katoomba and across the valleys and cliffs of the Blue Mountains. Steve is taking part in the 100 kilometre event which involves 4,400m of elevation and around 10,000 steps.

Last year Steve conquered the 100k course in 16 hours and 48 minutes. To put that in perspective he started at about 7.10am and finished 5 minutes before midnight! Steve has set the goal for this year to bet that time by at least 1 hour. He told us he will be finishing around 10.30pm. Just in time to get in a celebratory drink in with friends and family that night 🍻 🍻 🥵 😅

BackTrack Youth Works

A&O will be donating $50 from every job of $1,000 and above to the not-for-profit organisation BackTrack Youth Works in sponsoringSteve’s endeavour.

Bernie Shakeshaft, founder of BackTrack, won the 2020 NSW Local Hero Award for his work with at-risk teenagers in Armadale. They have literally saved young people’s lives with the passionate work they do and are quietly spreading the word.

Helping young people get back on track

We are on a mission to help as many young people having a hard time as possible

BackTrack is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation helping young people having a bad time to get back on track.

The majority of the kids we work with are between 12–19 years of age. They have multiple and complex life challenges and before BackTrack steps in, are falling through the cracks of society.

Steve's visit

BackTrack Youth Works helps kids from 'at risk' backgrounds get their lives back on track.

Their motto is "Keeping kids alive, out of jail and chasing their hopes and dreams".

A few weeks ago Steve and Kathy paid a visit to Bernie and the guys at BackTrack in Armidale to see first hand the amazing work they do.

Bernie Shakeshaft, CEO and founder of Backtrack was this year's Australian Local Hero 2020 for the great work he does saving the lives of kids who would no doubt be in jail or dead if not for him and his hero helpers. He's even written a book about his adventures.

Steve spoke with Bernie who encouraged the kids (& dogs) to get in front of the camera and let us know what it takes to work and live at BackTrack.

Follow the A&O Facebook page to keep up with Steve's training.
